In this Gatorade commercial, the director uses many camera angles and editing tools to develop his commercial. The commercial has only one line of talking, but show off the product by using many different video clips. Many short and choppy clips are used to show situations for a “what this drink can do for you” example shown in the commercial. The clips are changed with the beats in the song, which adds to the overall flow of the commercial. Within the clips of action shots, up close straightforward shots of the Gatorade bottle are shown. These clips are shown at different speeds throughout the commercial. One or two different flavors are sometimes shown at the same pace as the other clips or four to five clips are shown at a very high speed.

For the action shots within this commercial many different angles are used to capture the action. For the jumping snowboarders, low angle shots are used to show their high and provide an image the shows the bottom of the board then up to the snowboarder. For the basketball players, the first is shown with a low angle, then the film switches to a high angle shot of a different player. After this another low and angle shot is used to show a volleyball player spiking a ball.

Repetition is and leading lines is used when the camera captures the hands hitting to floor to the beat of the song. Another interesting persecution method that is used is when the basketball is thrown towards the screen. The basketball appears as though it is coming straight towards the camera and will come right at you. This is then used to create a transition to the next clip. As the basketball gets very close to the screen, the shot then is zoomed out on a soccer ball. When watching this transition the balls appear to take each other’s place, and when zooms out goes to a soccer action clip. Finally, at the end of the commercial, the strategies used to show the athletes are changed. Instead of shots that show their actions, more up-close shots are used to show more of the intensity and emotion in the athlete’s faces.

For our one minute lumiere project, our scene was a girl looking for a book in the library. It started out she tried to look on her own with a heavy backpack. Then she finally found someone she could look to for help. The help searched high and low for the book and she finally found what she was looking for. Then the girl sat down to read the book on a couch in the library.

Taylor Swift’s music video for her song “You Belong With Me” shows the story sequence of the song. It starts out with her talking through signs to her neighbor who she is in love with. He has a girlfriend and a very dramatic relationship. Taylor witnesses him with his girlfriend and she seems to be trying to show Taylor she has him. Next, the girlfriend dumps Taylor’s crush at the football game. In the end Taylor goes to prom because her crush writes “I wish you were” to her coming to the dance. They both end up admitting their feelings for each other. This music video is meant to be direct and be more straight forward then symbolic

The director uses a lot of short clips that jump from far away angles to close angles. Most shots are first shown from far away before going close to the subjects face. The shots also jump back and forth from subject to subject after very short periods of time. I think that this makes the video move on faster to keep the viewer intrigued in the scene. Many of the shots include the subjects face taking up the full screen. This is done to show more the emotion in the subjects face and many times emphasize the words being sung by the subject. The director also chooses to focus on the subject or subjects and blur the background in many of the scenes. This is most obvious in the scene where they are sitting on the bench and at the football game.

The final scene takes place at a school prom. Taylor walks in walking a white dress and is the only girl at the dance in white. The ex-girlfriend is wearing red which makes is a bold and showy color. The director’s choice of putting Taylor in white and the other girl in red makes Taylor seem more innocent and gentle.

An interesting choice the director made was to have Taylor Swift act out herself, and also the “other girl” who stars in the video. I could not quite figure out why this choice was made but I found it very interesting.

Finding Nemo is the story of a single father who is very over protective of his son. On his sons first day of school he tries to be daring and is captured by a scuba driver. The movie is the story of Nemo’s father Marlin searching the ocean for him and Nemo’s experience in a fish tank. Both characters meet a variety of few people and learn more about themselves as people.

The creators of Finding Nemo used neon colors to make the main character fish stand out on the mostly blue background of the ocean or the dull colors of the fish tank. An example where this stands out immensely is when Marlin is swimming against many fish other fish while freaking out about losing Nemo. All the surrounding fish are different shades of blue.

Nemo’s character grows up throughout the movie and learns to understand why his father is so protective. Marlin also learns that he cannot prevent his son from encountering all aspects of life.  This children’s cartoon represents the real relationship between a son and over protective parents.

I chose to use a picture of my coffee mug because I drink coffee everyday. To this photo I altered the color balance by turning the cyan color up and the magenta colors down. Then I posterized the photo, used the ocean ripple distort and changed the curves of the photo.

I used a photo of my lacrosse stick because I play lacrosse. To this photo I changed the vibrance to  -100, changed the saturation to 90 and inverted the photo.

I used a picture of a pair of shoes I have from a random occasion because I thought they were fun and the bright color would be fun to work with on photoshop. On this photo I changed the brightness and contrast to 100% and applied the colored pencil effect.

I chose this title series because it incorporates only graphic elements and no photographs or video chips. When first viewing this intro, if you aren’t focusing on it you would just assume it was random drawings that don’t tell a viewer that much about the movie, when it reality it is this title series hints to the major events of the movie.

Drawings that have a cut out appearance take up the majority of the title series. The cut outs used when the name Ellen Paige is shown in the title series they have the form of a pregnant women and then a non-pregnant women replaces it. This implies that a character in the movie will be pregnant and it appears that she has the baby. The outline of the running man also shows that someone running or who runs is going to be an element of the movie. Another cut out that is used is of a couch and then of two people on it, which can be connected to a sexual act. In the broader view, all of the major topics of the movie are covered in the title series.

The entire series is done with a cartoonish, drawn by crayon look. The only colors used are orange, for the cut outs and green, for the text. Near the end there is a pale red or light pink plus sign shape that brings the title series to its end. Of each frame throughout the series white spaces takes up the majority of the space. This draws the viewers eyes directly to the few color objects being shown.

Lastly, the creator uses the repetition of orange lines that move across the screen to lead the viewers eyes when topics of the series are being changed or to emphasis the object being presented in the screen.

             The Hannah Montana movie poster uses many aspects of design to draw a viewer into wanting to see the movie. First, the poster is a very accurate display of the movies theme. The quote alone shows that the movie is about someone who lives two different lives and must pick only one of them. This is then backed up by a picture of the same girl in very opposite setting and with different hairstyles. Disney used color to further show the difference between the two setting the actor is living in. The top location is shown with bright colors, while the lower setting uses more browns and faded colors.

            The poster is set up using separating lines to divide the poster into different sections. The white space divides the two scenes that are photographed from the movie. A boarder is also used to bring extra color to the poster and to draw your eye to the poster. Reputation of the actor, by placing her twice in one poster, is another element of design used to intrigue the onlooker. Perspective is also used; by making the actors face large in both sections it takes place in and putting a scene smaller in the background. The audience is initially drawn to the face then can see once intrigued the details added to the poster to inform a potential view extra.

This web ad is advertising a “bump it,” which is an item used to makes girls hair appear to have more volume. I like how the ad references to the item being sold on tv because most people would recognize it from its tv commercial. But i think that this reference being a major part of the ad is one of the negative qualities of the ad. I think that in general the ad is boring and would have been better done if the majority of the ad was not the pain white background. On the other hand, I do like how they show you both the product, how you use it and what the end result looks like. The only semi-vibrant color used in the ad is red, which is what the viewers eyes are drawn to. This pulls the viewer away from what the ad is selling and to the fact it is sold on tv. I also do not like that the ad does not actually tell you how you can order the item or its price, just that it exists. I think this is a major flaw in the ad. In general, I find this ad to be very uninformative and does not appear to have required much effort to create.

trashcans

For my photo essay I took pictures of 8 different trashcans. I chose to do these because there are many different styles of trashcans but they all serve to do the same thing no matter what they look like. It was interesting to see the different looking trashcans different students chose to have in there dorms rooms and the different trashcans in the hallways. I tryed to add creativity by taking the pictures from a variety of different angles.
